regarbd
For her Parsons Senior Thesis, Kimberly conceptualized and produced a 5 part short series, Regarbd, encouraging consumers to ‘regard their garb.’ Aimed at highlighting accessible alternatives to fast fashion, she worked with donateNYC and NYC Department of Sanitation to include many events at New York City’s first ever Refashion Week throughout the series. ReFashion Week is dedicated to reducing textile waste and exactly what Kimberly hopes to see the industry resemble in the future. Events include secondhand shopping, swapping, mending, and important discussions.

Watch
The Issues
“The Issues” introduces problems created by the fashion systems that exist today. This sets the scene as to why there is a need for an environmentally sustainable and ethical fashion movement.
The Designer
“The Designer” showcases the struggles behind affording materials, finding resources, production, marketing, and all the other facets involved in running your own fashion business with little to no profit as a young creative. What additional, daunting struggles does imposing the element of “sustainability” into the mix cause for a designer? This episode highlights the challenges of designing sustainable fashion, while keeping it accessible to consumers forced to shop fast fashion.
The Community
“The Community” emphasizes existing projects, non profit organizations, and other ongoing efforts that offer affordable fast fashion alternatives to real life communities that are less aware or concerned with the implications of fashion on the environment, people, or animals.
The Activists
“The Activists” explores the work of individuals leading the sustainable fashion movement through an approach that makes ethical fashion choices more realistic/ accessible to the masses. Co Founder of Esa New York, Willa Tsokanis, and Founder of Positive Obsession, Devonne Jackson illustrate their activism for eco, ethical fashion outside of Esa New York and Positive Obsession as they take part in New York City’s first ever “Refashion Week.”
The Future
“The Future” poses the question: how much more systemic progress does the fashion industry have to make in order to meet the sustainable fashion movement halfway? Is there hope? What could an industry that values environmental implications and accessibility at the same level as creative expression look like for future participants and consumers of the fashion industry at every level?
Regarbd x WeGather
Encouraging the same message among fellow young designers, Kimberly hosted a weaving event on campus at The New School in collaboration with WE GATHER. The workshop guided students as they designed woven textile samples using only secondhand, recycled materials sourced from FABSCRAP.
Thanks
Timo - Thank you for your passion and dedication to sharing these important subjects and complexities of environmental justice with the designers, leaders, creatives, and young people of the next generation responsible for making change at The New School.
Eszter and Ashlee - Your contribution to this series was such an important one for me to include. It took the project beyond insight from individuals within the fashion system, and expanded it to outside fields that encourage better understanding of fashion’s impact as it connects to so many other systems.
Kye - Thank you for inspiring me with your unique approach at designing with and for your community, on top of considering the environmental impact of fashion and the materials we use. You are creating such great pieces and spreading an amazing message through your work. I'm so glad to have been able to include you as a part of this project, even with your equally busy thesis schedule.
Cameron - You are such a joy, and it was so beautiful to see your dream of Refashion Week come to life and be enjoyed by so many people. I am so thankful and appreciative you allowed me the opportunity to capture such a monumental event for NYC and the sustainable fashion movement.
Willa and Devonne - Your excitement about the work that you do, the events that you hold, and the people that you meet / influence is truly moving to watch. I hope to, one day, be able to positively reach as many people as you have been able to through the creation of Esa New York and Positive Obsession.
